Frequently Asked Questions
What is the benefit of the STOL Wheel Hub System? There are many advantages to using this system. One is that as a replacement set of 35" tires is under $1,000. There is no need to be covering tires or avoiding asphalt landings out fear of unaffordable tire costs. Another significant benefit is the reduction in weight, which increases the usable load. Another advantage is we can now customize another part of the plane to our likings!
Can the hub run Standard Aviation Brakes or Brembo Brakes? Our hub is machined so that a traditional 3 or 6 bolt brake disk will bolt onto the caliper, as well as our 9" disk. If you choose to run stanadard brakes, we provide bushings that you may need to slightly modify to get the correct alignment for your specific application. If you chose to upgrade to the 9" brake disk and Brembo Brake packages, we will provide all the bushings necessary for proper alignment.
Is your hub welded? Nope! Our hub starts out as a chunk of billet aircraft grade aluminum and it hits the CNC machine. We don't weld our hubs as we believe welded hubs may be prone to cracking and heat distortion. Machined hubs stay true.
How much does the rim and tire weigh? Currently our wheel, tire, hub, and brake package weights 43lbs per one side utilizing the 15" skylight rim, 35" shaved dune tire, and Brembo Brakes.
What is the bolt pattern? The STOL Wheelz hub utilizes the 4x110mm Bolt Pattern
What wheel size is available? You can any wheel that has 4x110mm bolt pattern, truly offering unlimited customization. We recommend running 0 offset or less. Any of the wheelz we offer will bolt right onto the hub. We currently only offer 15" wheels.
Have these been tested? This system has 100's of hours on on it primarily consisting of takeoff & landings for hub testing purposes. They've worked well on our application, but as is with any experimental parts; use at your own risk.
